Ring Video Doorbell Wired — Entry-Level HD Wired Video Doorbell with Two-Way Talk and Advanced Motion Detection

Model number
video-doorbell-wired

The Ring Video Doorbell Wired is Ring's most affordable wired video doorbell, designed for homeowners who already have existing doorbell wiring and want a permanent, always-on installation without dealing with battery charging. The slim, compact form factor installs in minutes using your existing doorbell wires (8–24 VAC) for continuous power. HD video provides a clear view of your front door, and Two-Way Talk lets you see, hear, and speak to visitors from the Ring app. Advanced Motion Detection sends real-time alerts to your phone. Because it draws power from the doorbell wiring, it activates your existing in-home chime when the button is pressed — no separate Ring Chime required if you already have a doorbell. No battery to charge and no interruptions in coverage. A Ring Protect subscription is required to review recorded clips; Live View works without a subscription.

§ FAQ

What wiring does the Ring Video Doorbell Wired require?

The Video Doorbell Wired requires an existing wired doorbell system with a transformer rated at 8–24 VAC, 40VA max, 50/60Hz. This is the standard transformer that most homes with traditional doorbell systems already have. If your transformer is too weak or incompatible, Ring sells a replacement Hardwired Transformer for about $25. The doorbell connects to the same two wires that powered your old doorbell button.

Does it work with my existing indoor doorbell chime?

Yes — because the Video Doorbell Wired draws power from your existing doorbell wiring, it can activate your existing mechanical or digital in-home chime when the button is pressed, just like your original doorbell. Make sure your chime is compatible by checking Ring's chime compatibility list. For incompatible chimes, a Ring Chime accessory (sold separately) can be plugged into any outlet to alert you.

Does it ever need battery charging?

No. The Video Doorbell Wired draws constant power from your doorbell wiring, so there is no battery to charge and no interruption in coverage. This is the primary advantage of wired over battery-powered models — always-on power means the camera is always available for Live View and will never go offline due to a dead battery.

Is this hard to install?

Installation typically takes 15–30 minutes for someone comfortable with basic home improvement tasks. You shut off the breaker to the doorbell circuit, remove your old doorbell button, connect the two existing wires to the terminals on the Ring bracket, then mount and snap the doorbell into place. The Ring app walks you through each step with the in-app setup guide.

Does the Video Doorbell Wired have a siren?

No — the Ring Video Doorbell Wired does not have a built-in siren. If you want a siren on a wired doorbell, consider the Wired Doorbell Pro, which adds radar-based 3D Motion Detection, Bird's Eye View, and a built-in siren along with higher-resolution video.

Does it need a Ring Protect subscription?

Live View, Two-Way Talk, and real-time motion notifications work without any subscription. A Ring Protect plan is required to save and review recorded video clips. Plans start at $4.99/month per device or $10/month for unlimited devices in your home, with video history stored for up to 180 days.
