Model number
smart-lighting-steplight-solar

The Ring Smart Lighting Solar Steplight is a compact, wall-mounted solar light designed specifically for stairs, deck edges, risers, and walkway borders. Up to 50 lumens of downward-facing white light activates when motion is detected, illuminating steps for safe nighttime navigation. The solar panel charges the built-in battery during daylight hours — no wiring required. Connect via Amazon Sidewalk to control brightness and motion settings in the Ring app, set schedules, and link with Ring cameras, doorbells, and other smart lights for coordinated responses. A Ring Bridge (2nd Gen) or compatible Sidewalk hub may be needed in areas without sufficient Sidewalk coverage. Available in White and Black. Weather resistant rated IP55.

§ FAQ

Can the Steplight be installed on vertical surfaces like stair risers?

Yes. The Steplight is designed to mount flush to vertical surfaces such as stair risers, deck posts, and retaining walls. The solar panel faces upward or outward to capture sunlight while the light element faces downward to illuminate the step below. Mounting hardware is included — no electrician or wiring is required.

How bright is 50 lumens for step lighting?

50 lumens is appropriate for step illumination — enough to clearly define the edge of each step and prevent trips at night without being harsh or blinding. For comparison, a typical reading light is 400–800 lumens; step lights intentionally use lower output to provide safe guidance without excessive glare. Brightness is adjustable in the Ring app.

Does the Steplight need direct sunlight or can it charge in partial shade?

The Steplight can charge in partial shade, but direct sunlight produces the most efficient charging. Install in a location that receives at least 4–6 hours of sunlight per day for reliable nightly operation. Positions under overhangs, in deep shade, or facing north (in the Northern Hemisphere) will have reduced charging efficiency and may require supplemental charging during extended cloudy periods.
