Ring Door View Cam (Peephole Cam) — 1080p HD Battery-Powered Video Doorbell for Apartments and Renters

Model number
door-peephole-security-camera

The Ring Door View Cam (Peephole Cam) is a battery-powered video doorbell designed specifically for apartments, condos, and rental units where drilling a standard doorbell mount into the wall is not permitted or possible. It replaces the existing peephole on your door with a two-piece camera system: the camera unit mounts on the outside of the door where the peephole was, and a rear section attaches on the inside — connected through the peephole hole. No drilling required. The Quick-Release Battery Pack is built into the rear section for easy recharging. 1080p HD video and Two-Way Talk let you see, hear, and speak to visitors from the Ring app. Knock Detection senses when someone knocks rather than ringing, so you still get an alert even if visitors skip the button. Customizable Motion Zones and Privacy Zones let you focus on what matters and exclude neighboring apartment doors. The device also includes a built-in optical peephole viewer and a privacy shield so you can look out the old-fashioned way. Compatible with standard peepholes ranging from 0.5–9/16 inches in diameter and doors between 1.3 and 2.2 inches thick. Note: the Peephole Cam has been discontinued by Ring and is available while supplies last.

§ FAQ

Does installing the Ring Peephole Cam require drilling or permanent changes to my door?

No — the Peephole Cam is designed specifically for renters and apartment dwellers. Installation uses your door's existing peephole hole. You unscrew and remove the old peephole viewer with the included tool, place the camera on the outside of the door, thread the connector through the hole, and attach the rear section on the inside. No new holes are drilled, and the door's structure is not altered. When you move out, you can remove it and reinstall your original peephole.

What size peephole does the Peephole Cam fit?

The Ring Peephole Cam fits standard peepholes with a diameter between 1/2 inch and 9/16 inch (12mm to 14mm). It also requires a door thickness between approximately 1.3 inches and 2.2 inches (34mm to 55mm). If your door or peephole is outside these ranges, it will not fit. Measure your peephole diameter before purchasing.

What is Knock Detection?

Knock Detection is a feature unique to the Ring Peephole Cam. The device contains a sensor that detects physical vibrations — so when someone knocks on your door without pressing the doorbell button, the Peephole Cam still sends you a notification. This is especially useful in apartment buildings where visitors frequently knock rather than ring. You can adjust the sensitivity of Knock Detection in the Ring app.

How long does the battery last and how do I charge it?

Battery life is approximately 6 months under average usage. The Quick-Release Battery Pack is built into the rear section (inside unit). To charge it, press the release button to remove the rear section battery cover, slide out the battery pack, and charge via the included USB cable. You do not need to remove the camera from the door.

Can neighbors on the other side of a hallway see through the camera?

The Peephole Cam includes Privacy Zones that let you mask specific areas of the camera's field of view so they are blurred or excluded from recording. You can use this to exclude a neighboring apartment door or communal hallway area. There is also a built-in privacy shield on the optical peephole viewer so the lens cannot be seen from the outside.

Is the Ring Peephole Cam still available to buy?

The Ring Peephole Cam has been officially discontinued by Ring and will not be restocked. It may still be available from third-party sellers and Amazon while current inventory lasts. Ring has not announced a direct successor product; apartment dwellers who need a no-drill solution may consider the Ring No-Drill Mount accessory combined with a standard battery doorbell as an alternative.
