Model number
battery-doorbell-pro-2nd-gen

The Ring Battery Doorbell Pro (2nd Gen) is Ring's flagship battery-powered video doorbell, delivering 1536p HD+ Head-to-Toe video with a wide 150° horizontal and 150° vertical field of view that captures full-body visibility down to ground level. Powered by a Quick-Release Battery Pack for place-anywhere installation with no wiring required, it features radar-based 3D Motion Detection with Bird's Eye View, which maps the path of visitors on an aerial overhead map. Color Pre-Roll captures roughly 4 seconds of color footage before a motion event is triggered. Low-Light Sight provides true-color video in near-darkness, with automatic black-and-white adaptive night vision in total darkness. Enhanced dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz), Two-Way Talk with Audio+ noise cancellation, a built-in siren, and Quick Replies round out the feature set. A Ring Protect subscription is required for video history; Live View works without a subscription. Compatible with Alexa for hands-free announcements and live video on Echo Show devices.

§ FAQ

How long does the battery last, and how often do I need to recharge?

Battery life varies based on usage, but Ring estimates approximately 6 months on a single charge under average conditions (roughly 10–20 motion events per day). Heavy traffic, extreme cold, or frequent Live View sessions will reduce battery life. Charging takes a few hours via the included USB-C cable using the Quick-Release Battery Pack, which slides out without removing the doorbell from the wall.

Does it work without a Ring Protect subscription?

Yes — Live View, Two-Way Talk, and real-time motion notifications all work without a subscription. However, you will not be able to review recorded video clips after they occur. A Ring Protect plan ($4.99/month per device or $10/month for the whole home) is required to save, review, and share video history for up to 180 days.

What is the difference between the Battery Doorbell Pro and the Battery Doorbell Plus?

The Battery Doorbell Pro (2nd Gen) adds radar-based 3D Motion Detection, Bird's Eye View (aerial motion path mapping), Color Pre-Roll (4-second color preview before a motion event), and enhanced Audio+ noise cancellation — none of which are available on the Battery Doorbell Plus. Both offer 1536p HD+ Head-to-Toe video, color night vision, and dual-band Wi-Fi. The Pro is Ring's highest-tier battery doorbell; the Plus is the mid-tier option.

What is 3D Motion Detection, and why does it need radar?

3D Motion Detection uses a built-in radar sensor to measure the distance and direction of motion, not just whether something moved. This allows you to draw Bird's Eye Zones — motion areas defined in an overhead aerial view of your property — so you can monitor your driveway without being triggered by foot traffic on the sidewalk. After an event, Bird's Eye View shows you the path the person or object traveled as a track on the aerial map. PIR-only doorbells cannot offer this level of spatial precision.

Can I install it without drilling into my wall?

Ring sells a No-Drill Mount accessory that allows installation on door frames or other surfaces without putting holes in the wall. The included hardware supports standard screw mounting in about 5–10 minutes. Because the Battery Doorbell Pro is entirely battery-powered, no electrical wiring is required for basic operation — wiring is optional only if you want continuous trickle-charging from an existing doorbell transformer (8–24 VAC).

Does it work with Alexa and other smart home platforms?

Yes. The Ring Battery Doorbell Pro integrates natively with Amazon Alexa. You can ask Alexa to show the front door camera on any Echo Show or Fire TV device, receive doorbell announcements through Echo speakers, and enable motion-triggered routines. Ring does not natively support Google Home or Apple HomeKit, but third-party integrations (such as Home Assistant) can bridge the platforms.
