Model number
spotlight-cam-plus-solar

The Ring Spotlight Cam Plus (Solar) bundles the Spotlight Cam Plus camera with Ring's Small Solar Panel, which keeps the internal Quick-Release Battery Pack continuously charged using sunlight — no outlet needed and no routine battery swaps. In locations with 3–4 hours of direct sun per day, the solar panel maintains the battery at a healthy charge level year-round. The camera delivers 1080p HD+ video with Color Night Vision, two 375-lumen LED spotlights, Advanced PIR Motion Detection with customizable zones, Two-Way Talk, and a built-in siren. IP55 weather resistance and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi complete the feature set.

§ FAQ

How much sunlight does the solar panel need to keep the camera charged?

Ring recommends at least 3–4 hours of direct sunlight per day for the included Small Solar Panel to maintain the battery. In full sun, this is sufficient for a camera with average traffic (roughly 10 events per day). Heavily shaded locations, winter months with short daylight hours, or high-traffic placements may drain the battery faster than the panel can replenish it — in those cases you may still need occasional USB-C recharges.

What happens to the camera if there is a run of cloudy days?

The solar panel trickle-charges the internal Quick-Release Battery Pack. If overcast weather prevents adequate charging for several days, the battery will gradually deplete — just as it would without a solar panel. The camera continues to operate on battery reserve and will alert you via the Ring app when the battery level drops low. You can remove and recharge the battery via USB-C at any time.

Can the solar panel be mounted separately from the camera?

Yes. The included Small Solar Panel has its own mounting bracket and connects to the camera via a USB-C cable. You can mount the panel on a nearby wall, fence, or eave that receives better sun exposure than the camera location — useful when the ideal camera placement is in partial shade.

Is the solar variant the same camera as the battery model?

Yes, exactly. The Solar bundle uses the same Spotlight Cam Plus (Battery) hardware. The only difference is that the package includes the Small Solar Panel and its mounting hardware. Buying the Battery model separately and adding Ring's solar panel accessory results in an identical setup.

Does the solar panel power the spotlights directly?

No. The solar panel charges the battery; the battery powers both the camera and the spotlights. The spotlights draw significant power when activated, which is why consistent sun exposure is important for maintaining battery health in a solar setup. Frequent spotlight activation in low-sun conditions will drain the battery faster.
