Model number
outdoor-cam-plus-solar

The Ring Outdoor Cam Plus (Solar) bundles Ring's compact Retinal 2K outdoor camera with a solar panel for continuous wire-free operation. Low-Light Sight provides enhanced color video in dim conditions, while Advanced PIR Motion Detection triggers alerts and recording when activity is detected within customizable zones. With adequate direct sunlight, the solar panel maintains the Quick-Release Battery Pack indefinitely, eliminating the need for periodic recharges. Two-Way Talk, Color Night Vision, IP55 weather resistance, and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi deliver reliable coverage for any location with good sun exposure. The slim, no-spotlight design keeps the camera discreet — ideal for monitoring entryways, side yards, or backyard access points without drawing attention.

§ FAQ

How does the solar charging work with no spotlights drawing power?

Because the Outdoor Cam Plus has no built-in spotlights, it consumes significantly less power per motion event than the Spotlight Cam. This makes solar charging more effective — the battery depletes more slowly, so even a Small Solar Panel in partial sun conditions can maintain the charge. In a location with 3–4 hours of direct sunlight per day, the battery should stay continuously topped up under typical traffic levels.

Is the solar charging time long before the camera is operational?

The camera ships with a partially charged Quick-Release Battery Pack, so it is operational immediately after setup. The solar panel begins contributing to the charge from day one. For the first few days in cloudy conditions, the pre-charged battery will sustain the camera. Full solar self-sufficiency depends on sun exposure at your installation site.

Why choose the Outdoor Cam Plus Solar over the Spotlight Cam Plus Solar?

The Outdoor Cam Plus Solar is approximately $50–70 less expensive and has a more compact, discreet profile. It features Retinal 2K video and Low-Light Sight for sharper, more color-rich footage than the Spotlight Cam Plus's 1080p HD+. The trade-off is no built-in spotlights and no siren — the Outdoor Cam Plus relies on ambient or existing lighting for night footage. If the location already has exterior lighting (a porch light, street lamp, or dusk-to-dawn bulb), the Outdoor Cam Plus Solar is an excellent value.

Can the solar panel be positioned differently from the camera?

Yes. The Small Solar Panel includes its own mounting bracket and connects to the camera via a USB-C cable, allowing you to orient the panel for maximum sun exposure independently of the camera angle. This is useful when the ideal camera position is in partial shade but a nearby wall or eave has better sun exposure.

Does the Outdoor Cam Plus Solar have a backup battery if the solar panel underperforms?

Yes. The camera always runs from the internal Quick-Release Battery Pack; the solar panel tops it up. If the panel cannot keep pace with consumption (due to shade, winter, or heavy usage), the battery will gradually drain just as a battery-only model would. You will receive a low-battery alert in the Ring app, and can recharge the battery via USB-C at any time without removing the camera.
