Makita 18V LXT Compact 1/2 in. Driver-Drill (Tool Only)

Model number
XFD10Z

The Makita XFD10Z is an 18V LXT compact 1/2 in. driver-drill built around a 4-pole brushed motor that delivers 480 in-lbs of max torque. At 3.3 lbs with battery and 7-1/4 in. long, it is one of the lighter full-function drills in the LXT family — well suited for finish carpentry, cabinet installation, and general fastening where a compact profile matters. Extreme Protection Technology (XPT) adds dust and water resistance. Battery and charger sold separately.

§ FAQ

What makes the XFD10Z 'compact' compared to other 18V Makita drills?

At 7-1/4 in. long and 3.3 lbs with battery, the XFD10Z is noticeably shorter and lighter than the full-size XFD03Z (8-7/8 in., 5.0 lbs). The compact form is achieved through a redesigned gear housing and a shorter motor assembly. The trade-off is lower max torque (480 vs. 750 in-lbs) and a slightly shorter high-speed RPM ceiling.

Is the XFD10Z brushless?

No. The XFD10Z uses a Makita-built 4-pole brushed motor. For a compact brushless upgrade with the same 530 in-lbs torque and longer motor life, the XFD12Z is the direct brushless successor in a similar compact form factor.

Does the XFD10Z come with a battery?

No. The XFD10Z is the tool-only version. If you need battery and charger included, the XFD10R is the compact 2.0Ah kit configuration. Both use the same drill body.

What batteries work with the XFD10Z?

Any Makita 18V LXT battery with the Star symbol is compatible, including all BL1820B through BL1860B packs. Because of the drill's compact size, the BL1820B (2.0Ah) or BL1830B (3.0Ah) provide the best balance of run time and ergonomics.

How does the XFD10Z compare to the XFD11ZB sub-compact?

The XFD10Z delivers more torque (480 vs. 350 in-lbs) and has a slightly longer body (7-1/4 in. vs. 6-3/8 in.). The XFD11ZB is brushless and lighter (2.8 lbs), which suits extreme tight-space work. For general-purpose compact drilling with more power, the XFD10Z is the better pick; for absolute minimum size and brushless efficiency, the XFD11ZB wins.
