§ FAQ

Is the 2.0Ah battery in the XFD10R enough for a full day of work?

For light to moderate tasks — driving screws, drilling holes in stud framing, finish carpentry — the BL1820B handles several hours of intermittent use. For heavy continuous drilling or full-day commercial use, pair the kit with a spare BL1840B or BL1850B battery. The included DC18RC charges the 2.0Ah pack in about 25 minutes.

Is the XFD10R discontinued?

Yes. Makita has discontinued the XFD10R. The current compact brushless successor is the XFD12R, which bundles the same BL brushless motor platform as the XFD12Z with two 2.0Ah batteries for improved efficiency and longer motor life.

What is the difference between XFD10R and XFD10Z?

The XFD10Z is the bare tool only. The XFD10R is the same drill sold as a kit with a 2.0Ah BL1820B battery and DC18RC rapid charger included. If you already have compatible 18V LXT batteries, buying the XFD10Z separately is more cost-effective.

Can I upgrade to a larger battery with the XFD10R drill?

Yes. Any Makita 18V LXT battery with the Star symbol works with the XFD10Z drill body. Upgrading to a 3.0Ah or 5.0Ah pack extends run time without any modification to the tool.
