Model number
XFD03M

The Makita XFD03M bundles the XFD03Z driver-drill with a 4.0Ah 18V LXT battery and rapid charger. The Makita-built 4-pole motor produces 750 in-lbs of max torque through a 2-speed gearbox (0–400 / 0–2,000 RPM) with a 21-position clutch. § FAQ

What is the difference between the XFD03M and XFD03Z?

The XFD03Z is the bare tool — drill only, no battery or charger included. The XFD03M is the kit version of the same drill, adding a 4.0Ah BL1840B battery and a DC18RC rapid charger. If you already own compatible 18V LXT batteries, the XFD03Z offers the better value.

Can I use a 5.0Ah battery with the XFD03M drill?

Yes. The drill itself is compatible with any 18V LXT battery with the Star symbol, including 5.0Ah packs. The 4.0Ah battery included in the kit is the bundled option; upgrading to a BL1850B adds run time without any modification.

Is the XFD03M brushless?

No. The XFD03M uses a Makita-built 4-pole brushed motor delivering 750 in-lbs of max torque. For a brushless kit with longer motor life and improved energy efficiency, consider the XFD12R (530 in-lbs brushless compact kit) or the XFD131 (440 in-lbs brushless, 3.0Ah kit).

How long does the included 4.0Ah battery take to charge?

The DC18RC rapid charger replenishes the BL1840B 4.0Ah battery in approximately 36 minutes. The charger communicates with the battery to actively control current, voltage, and temperature throughout the charge cycle to maximize battery life.

Is the XFD03M discontinued?

Yes. Makita lists the XFD03M as discontinued. It is still available through third-party sellers while inventory lasts. Current-production alternatives include the XFD131 (440 in-lbs brushless, 3.0Ah) and the XFD12R (530 in-lbs brushless compact, 2x2.0Ah).
