Leviton 20 Amp Self-Test Slim GFCI Outlet, Weather-Resistant Tamper-Resistant with LED Indicator (White)

Model number
GFWT2-W

The Leviton GFWT2-W is a 20-amp SmartlockPro Slim GFCI outlet in White with weather-resistant and tamper-resistant ratings for outdoor, wet, and damp locations on 20-amp circuits. The NEMA 5-20R T-slot accepts both 15-amp and 20-amp plugs. Weather-resistant construction seals against moisture, UV, and temperature cycling. Tamper-resistant shutters require simultaneous insertion of both plug blades. Self-test automatically verifies ground-fault response at regular intervals. LED: solid green for protected, blinking red for error, no light for tripped. Wallplate sold separately.

§ FAQ

When should I use a 20-amp weather-resistant GFCI instead of a 15-amp model?

Use the GFWT2-W on a 20-amp branch circuit when you need a weather-resistant outdoor-rated receptacle with a NEMA 5-20R configuration. This is common for dedicated or required 20-amp circuits serving outdoor equipment, garages, utility spaces, kitchens, and other locations where both GFCI protection and a 20-amp receptacle are appropriate. A 15-amp-only device is not the correct replacement on a circuit that specifically requires a 20-amp receptacle.

What is the difference between weather-resistant and weatherproof?

Weather-resistant describes the construction of the receptacle itself. The GFWT2-W is built to better resist moisture, UV exposure, and temperature cycling. Weatherproof describes the full installation, which still requires a suitable electrical box and cover assembly, especially an in-use cover for exposed outdoor locations. The outlet being WR does not remove the need for the correct enclosure and cover.

What do the LED indicator states mean on the GFWT2-W?

The LED uses simple status signals. Solid green means the outlet is powered and protection is active. Blinking red indicates a wiring issue or internal device fault. No light means the receptacle is tripped and not delivering power. If the indicator does not show normal status after installation, verify line and load wiring and test-reset operation.

Can the LOAD terminals provide downstream protection on a 20-amp circuit?

Yes. The GFWT2-W supports feed-through protection and can protect downstream outlets connected to its LOAD terminals. On a 20-amp circuit, this is useful when you want one upstream GFCI device to protect additional receptacles farther down the run. The downstream devices must still be wired correctly and the circuit must remain code-compliant for the locations served.

How does the self-test feature work?

The self-test system automatically checks the GFCI protection electronics at regular intervals to confirm the device can still respond to a ground fault. It performs this monitoring without routine interruption to connected loads. If the internal protection circuitry fails, the outlet trips and signals that it should be replaced, preventing a false sense of protection.
