Leviton 15 Amp Self-Test Slim GFCI Outlet with Guidelight, Tamper-Resistant (White)

Model number
GFNL1-W

The Leviton GFNL1-W is a 15-amp SmartlockPro Slim GFCI outlet in White with a built-in guidelight - a dual-lens LED nightlight that turns on automatically in low ambient light and off in daylight, eliminating the need for a separate plug-in nightlight and keeping both receptacle slots free. The guidelight draws approximately 1 watt and uses edge-mounted LEDs with a dual-lens diffuser for wide light dispersion along hallways and bathroom floors. Tamper-resistant shutters block foreign objects inserted into a single slot. The self-test function runs automatic internal ground-fault checks at regular intervals to meet UL 943 monitoring requirements without manual testing. Feed-through wiring at 20 amps lets one GFNL1 protect multiple downstream outlets. Wallplate sold separately.

§ FAQ

How does the guidelight work on the GFNL1-W?

The built-in guidelight uses an ambient light sensor to switch the LEDs on automatically when the room becomes dark and off again when enough daylight or room light is present. Because the light source is built into the receptacle face, it provides pathway lighting without blocking either outlet slot. This makes it useful in bathrooms, hallways, stair landings, and similar spaces where low-level night lighting is helpful.

How much power does the guidelight use, and will it affect the circuit?

The guidelight draws about 1 watt, which is a very small load compared with normal branch circuit capacity. That amount of power is not enough to nuisance-trip the GFCI or materially load the circuit in ordinary residential use. Its main purpose is convenience lighting, not room illumination, so it stays efficient while keeping the receptacle available for other devices.

What do the tamper-resistant shutters do?

The shutters inside the receptacle openings are designed to open only when both plug blades are inserted at the same time. This helps block foreign objects from being pushed into a single slot, which reduces shock risk and satisfies tamper-resistant receptacle requirements in many residential applications. It behaves normally with standard plugs but adds an important safety barrier.

Can the GFNL1-W protect downstream outlets?

Yes. The GFNL1-W supports feed-through wiring rated at 20 amps, so it can provide GFCI protection to downstream receptacles connected to its LOAD terminals. That allows a single upstream device to protect additional outlets farther along the same branch circuit. Correct line/load wiring is important for this feature to work properly.

How does the self-test feature work?

The self-test circuit automatically checks the GFCI protection electronics at regular intervals to verify that the outlet can still trip properly during a ground fault. This monitoring happens internally and does not require routine manual testing to keep the device compliant with UL self-monitoring requirements. If the protection function fails, the device indicates the problem so it can be replaced.
