ELEGRP 20 Amp GFCI Outlet, Tamper Resistant Self-Test with LED Indicator (G1920T, White)

Model number
G1920T

The ELEGRP G1920T is a 20-amp tamper-resistant GFCI outlet for kitchens, bathrooms, garages, and any 20-amp branch circuit requiring ground-fault protection. The slim, narrow-profile body fits standard single-gang boxes with extra room for conductors — useful in older boxes with limited depth. Tamper-resistant shutters block insertion of foreign objects and satisfy NEC requirements for all new residential receptacle installations. The self-test circuit runs an internal check every five seconds, satisfying UL 943 monitoring requirements and indicating end-of-life through repeated tripping rather than failing silently. A green LED confirms the outlet is protected at a glance. Feed-through terminals allow one upstream G1920T to protect additional standard receptacles downstream on the same circuit. Rated NEMA 5-20R with wire range 12–14 AWG copper, and includes a matching wall plate. UL/CUL listed, 2-Year Limited warranty.

§ FAQ

What makes the ELEGRP G1920T different from a standard 20-amp outlet?

The G1920T adds ground-fault circuit interrupter protection, which monitors for small leakage currents between hot and neutral. If it detects more than 4–6mA of leakage — the threshold at which current can cause ventricular fibrillation — it trips in milliseconds. A standard outlet has no such protection. The NEC requires GFCI protection in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, outdoors, crawl spaces, and unfinished basements.

When do I need a 20-amp GFCI outlet versus a 15-amp model?

Use the G1920T on a 20-amp branch circuit wired with 12 AWG wire and protected by a 20-amp breaker. Kitchen countertop circuits, bathroom circuits, garage circuits, and laundry room receptacles are commonly 20-amp. If your circuit is wired with 14 AWG and a 15-amp breaker, use the G1915T instead. Installing a 20-amp outlet on a 15-amp circuit is a code violation — the 5-20R slot configuration accepts 20-amp plugs that the wiring cannot safely handle.

What does the green LED on the G1920T indicate?

The green LED means the outlet is receiving power and the GFCI protection is active. If the LED goes dark, the device has tripped and the downstream receptacle face is de-energized. To reset, press the RESET button firmly until it clicks. If it trips again immediately, an active fault exists on the circuit — identify and correct it before resetting again.

Can the G1920T protect other outlets downstream?

Yes. Connect downstream receptacles to the LOAD terminals on the G1920T rather than the LINE terminals. Any standard outlet wired to LOAD will receive GFCI protection through the upstream device, which lets you protect an entire bathroom or kitchen circuit run with one GFCI outlet at the first position. Label downstream outlets 'GFCI Protected' as required by the NEC.

What does tamper-resistant mean and is it required?

Tamper-resistant shutters inside the outlet body only open when both slots are pressed simultaneously — the force pattern of a correctly inserted plug. A child inserting a single object (a key, wire, or utensil) into one slot cannot open the shutters. The NEC 2008 and later editions require tamper-resistant receptacles in all new residential construction and most renovation work, making the G1920T compliant for permitted electrical work.
