Model number
mini-indoor-security-camera-plug-in

The Ring Indoor Cam (2nd Gen) — sold under the product URL formerly known as the Mini Indoor Security Camera Plug-In — is Ring's affordable plug-in indoor security camera. It records 1080p HD video with a 115° horizontal by 59° vertical field of view and Color Night Vision for full-color footage in low light. A Manual Audio & Video Privacy Cover physically blocks both the lens and microphone simultaneously with a single swivel, giving you complete privacy at a touch. The adjustable camera mount lets you place the Indoor Cam on a flat surface, mount it to a wall, or attach it to the ceiling. Advanced Pre-Roll captures video snippets before a motion event is triggered (subscription required). Two-Way Talk, a remote-activated siren, and real-time notifications are included. The camera connects over 2.4 GHz single-band Wi-Fi and is designed for indoor use only. It is Ring's most affordable indoor camera and best suited for rooms where a smaller, simpler form factor is preferred.

§ FAQ

Does the Privacy Cover block both video and audio at the same time?

Yes. The Manual Audio & Video Privacy Cover on the Indoor Cam (2nd Gen) physically blocks the lens and simultaneously disables the microphone with a single swivel motion. This is different from the Indoor Cam Plus, whose removable lens cover only blocks video — the microphone on the Plus stays active unless you separately disable it in the Ring app.

Where can I place the Indoor Cam (2nd Gen)?

The Indoor Cam includes an adjustable camera mount that supports placement on any flat surface, mounting to a wall, or ceiling installation. Because it plugs into a standard power outlet, placement flexibility depends on where outlets are located — Ring also sells a 10-ft USB-A to Micro USB extension cable if you need extra reach to position the camera in the perfect spot.

Does it work without a Ring Protect subscription?

Yes — Live View, Two-Way Talk, real-time motion notifications, and siren activation are all available without a subscription. To review, download, or share recorded video clips you need a Ring Protect plan starting at $4.99 per month per device. Protect also unlocks Advanced Pre-Roll (video snippets captured before the motion trigger), Person Alerts, Vehicle Detection, and up to 180 days of video history.

What is the difference between Indoor Cam (2nd Gen) and Indoor Cam Plus?

The Indoor Cam (2nd Gen) is the entry-level option at $29.99, offering 1080p HD video and Color Night Vision. The Indoor Cam Plus ($59.99) upgrades to Retinal 2K resolution and adds Low-Light Sight — a technology that produces true-color footage in near-dark environments using just a small amount of ambient light. The Plus also has a slide-out removable lens cover rather than the swivel-type privacy cover on the 2nd Gen. If resolution and low-light performance are priorities, the Plus is the better choice; the 2nd Gen is ideal for budget-conscious buyers.

Is it compatible with Alexa?

Yes. The Ring Indoor Cam (2nd Gen) works with Amazon Alexa. You can ask Alexa to show the camera feed on Echo Show displays and Fire TV devices, receive motion announcements on Echo speakers, and use Alexa routines to automate camera-related actions. Ring does not natively support Google Home or Apple HomeKit.
