Ring Car Cam — Dual-Camera Vehicle Security Camera with Live View, Traffic Stop Mode, and LTE Connectivity

Model number
car-cam

The Ring Car Cam is a dual-camera vehicle security system that monitors both the exterior (front-facing) and interior (cabin-facing) of your car 24/7, whether parked or on the go. Two HD cameras record movement inside and outside the vehicle, with disturbance detection that triggers automatic recording when the car is parked. Live View and Two-Way Talk let you check in on your vehicle remotely via the Ring app when Car Cam is connected to your home Wi-Fi — or from anywhere with a Ring Protect Go subscription, which adds 4G LTE connectivity, cloud video highlights, GPS location tracking, and richer push notifications. Traffic Stop Mode lets you capture up to 20 minutes of video instantly by saying 'Alexa, record.' A physical Audio & Video Privacy Cover blocks the cabin-facing camera and electronically disables the microphone. Car Cam connects to your vehicle's OBD-II port for power, with intelligent power management to prevent draining the car battery. A 30-day Ring Protect Go trial is included. Note: Ring Car Cam is currently out of stock; limited availability through third-party sellers.

§ FAQ

Does Ring Car Cam require a subscription to work?

Ring Car Cam has two tiers of functionality. Without any subscription, the camera records disturbance-triggered events locally to the device, and you can play them back via the Ring app when the car is connected to your home Wi-Fi. Real-time notifications when away from home Wi-Fi are queued and delivered when the car reconnects. With a Ring Protect Go subscription ($6/month or $60/year), you get 4G LTE connectivity for real-time alerts and Live View from anywhere, cloud video highlights stored for up to 180 days, GPS location tracking, and richer push notifications. A 30-day Protect Go trial is included with purchase.

How does Car Cam connect to power in the vehicle?

Ring Car Cam plugs into your vehicle's OBD-II diagnostic port using the included power cable adapter. It does not hardwire to the fuse box or 12V accessory port. For safety, Ring recommends using Car Cam only in vehicles where the OBD-II port is located to the left of the steering wheel (on the driver's side dash). Check your vehicle owner's manual to locate the OBD-II port. Ring also provides a list of known incompatible vehicles on Ring.com.

Will Car Cam drain my car's battery?

Ring Car Cam has a built-in power management system that monitors your car battery level and switches to a low-power standby mode when the vehicle is parked. It will automatically shut down before depleting the car battery. That said, Ring recommends ensuring your vehicle battery is in good health before use — a battery with reduced capacity may not sustain Car Cam during extended parked periods. LTE-connected mode (with Protect Go) uses more power than Wi-Fi-only mode.

What is Traffic Stop Mode?

Traffic Stop Mode lets you capture video immediately without looking at your phone. Say 'Alexa, record' and Car Cam will record up to 20 minutes of footage, saving it locally to the device. If you have a Ring Protect Go subscription, you can save those recordings as cloud highlights for up to 180 days. This mode is intended for interactions with law enforcement or other situations where you want a hands-free recording trigger.

Does Car Cam provide GPS tracking of my vehicle?

Yes, but only with a Ring Protect Go subscription. From the Ring app, you can see your car's location when it's parked at home without a subscription (it confirms the car is where you expect it). With Protect Go and LTE connectivity, you can track the car's location in real time when it is away from home Wi-Fi — useful both for verifying the car is safe and for locating a stolen or misplaced vehicle.

Does the privacy cover block both cameras?

No. The physical Audio & Video Privacy Cover only blocks the interior cabin-facing camera — it slides over the cabin lens and simultaneously disables the cabin microphone electronically. The external forward-facing camera remains active at all times and cannot be blocked with the privacy cover. If you need to disable recording entirely, you can power the device off or use the Ring app privacy controls.
