Ring Alarm Flood and Freeze Sensor — Water Leak Detection and Temperature Monitoring, Z-Wave

Model number
flood-and-freeze-sensor

The Ring Alarm Flood and Freeze Sensor protects against two of the most common and expensive home disasters: water leaks and frozen pipes. Two metal probe sensors on the bottom of the unit detect the presence of water when placed on the floor near potential leak sources such as under sinks, behind washing machines, near water heaters, or under refrigerators. A built-in temperature sensor sends alerts when the ambient temperature drops below 40°F, warning of conditions that can cause pipes to freeze. Connects to the Ring Alarm Base Station via Z-Wave — requires Ring Alarm or Ring Alarm Pro. Sends real-time mobile and email notifications through the Ring app with a compatible Ring subscription. Battery-powered with approximately 3-year life.

§ FAQ

Where should I place the Flood and Freeze Sensor?

Place one sensor in any area at risk of water damage: under the kitchen sink, under the bathroom sink, behind the washing machine, near the water heater, under the refrigerator's water dispenser line, or in the basement near a sump pump. The two metal probes on the underside must be in contact with the floor — place directly on the surface rather than on a shelf or elevated surface.

How does the freeze alert work?

The built-in thermometer continuously monitors ambient temperature. When it drops below 40°F — conditions where water pipes can begin to freeze — it sends an alert to the Ring app. This is especially useful in unheated basements, garages, crawl spaces, or vacation homes where temperature swings can occur. Getting notified early gives you time to add heat before pipes freeze and burst.

Does the Flood and Freeze Sensor work without the Ring Alarm Base Station?

No — the Flood and Freeze Sensor uses Z-Wave protocol and requires a Ring Alarm Base Station (V2 or Pro) to function. It cannot connect directly to Wi-Fi or work standalone. This distinguishes it from Ring's newer generation of 'Ring Sensors' products, which use Amazon Sidewalk and don't require a base station.

Can Ring alert me if I'm away from home when flooding occurs?

Yes, with a compatible Ring subscription. The sensor sends real-time alerts through the Ring app whenever water is detected or temperature drops below the freeze threshold. If you have Ring Protect Plus with Cellular Backup, these alerts continue to arrive even if your internet goes down. With Professional Monitoring, Ring's agents can also call you automatically when the sensor triggers.
