§ FAQ

Can I use the Keypad without plugging it in?

Yes. The Alarm Keypad (2nd Gen) includes an internal rechargeable battery that provides approximately 7 months of standby life on a single charge. You can mount it anywhere without running a power cord. Plugging it in with the included adapter keeps it continuously charged and eliminates the need to track battery level.

How many Keypads can I add to one Ring Alarm system?

You can add multiple Keypads to a single Ring Alarm system. Many households place one at the front door, one near the garage entry, and one in the master bedroom for convenience. Each Keypad can arm and disarm the entire system independently.

Do the emergency buttons call 911 directly?

The emergency buttons (Police, Fire, Medical) do not call 911 directly from the keypad itself. When pressed, they send an alert to Ring's professional monitoring center (which requires a Ring Protect Plus subscription with Professional Monitoring active). Ring's monitoring agents then request dispatch of emergency services. Without a Professional Monitoring subscription, the emergency buttons will alert you through the Ring app but will not contact emergency services.

Does the Keypad work if the Wi-Fi goes down?

Yes. The Keypad communicates with the Base Station over Z-Wave, which is a local radio protocol independent of Wi-Fi. You can arm and disarm locally using the keypad PIN even during internet or Wi-Fi outages. Remote control from the Ring app requires internet or Cellular Backup.
