§ FAQ

What doors and windows should I protect with the 8-Piece Kit?

The 8-Piece Kit provides four contact sensors, which typically covers your front door, back door, garage entry door, and one slider or ground-floor window. Place the motion detector in a high-traffic area like the living room or hallway to catch any intrusion that bypasses an entry point. Put the keypad near your most-used entryway for easy arming and disarming.

Should I get the 8-Piece or the Alarm Pro 8-Piece Kit?

Both include identical sensor counts. The difference is the base station: the standard 8-Piece uses the Alarm Base Station V2, while the Pro 8-Piece includes the Alarm Pro Base Station with a built-in eero Wi-Fi 6 router and support for local video backup. Choose the Pro if you want to replace your home router or need Ring cameras to record locally during internet outages. Choose the standard kit if you already have a good router and just need reliable alarm coverage.

Does the Range Extender do anything for Wi-Fi?

No — the Ring Alarm Range Extender extends the Z-Wave signal between the Base Station and sensors, not your home Wi-Fi network. If sensors are installed far from the Base Station or behind thick walls, the Range Extender relays Z-Wave signals to ensure reliable connectivity. It does not help with Wi-Fi range for phones, laptops, or Ring cameras.
