Makita 18V LXT Brushless Compact Router (Tool Only)

Model number
XTR01Z

The Makita XTR01Z is an 18V LXT brushless compact router with variable speed from 10,000 to 30,000 RPM and constant speed control that automatically adjusts under load. The fixed base accepts both 1/4 in. and 3/8 in. collets (both included), and the 1-9/16 in. plunge capacity handles most edge-profile and dado routing tasks. An LED ring light illuminates the work area, and the smooth rack-and-pinion depth adjustment provides precise 1/64 in. increments. Tool only — battery and charger sold separately.

§ FAQ

What collet sizes does the XTR01Z accept?

The XTR01Z comes with both a 1/4 in. and a 3/8 in. collet. The 1/4 in. collet is the most common for compact router bits; the 3/8 in. collet opens up a wider range of larger-shank bits.

Is the XTR01Z brushless?

Yes. The XTR01Z uses a Makita-built brushless motor, which delivers longer runtime per charge, reduced heat, and longer overall tool life compared to brushed alternatives.

What is the variable-speed range of the XTR01Z?

The speed dial adjusts from 10,000 to 30,000 RPM. Slower speeds (10k–18k RPM) are better for larger bits and harder woods; higher speeds (22k–30k RPM) work well for small profile bits in soft materials.

Can the XTR01Z accept a plunge base?

Yes. The XTR01T7 kit includes a plunge base (196094-2) as one of its seven accessories. The plunge base is available separately and is fully compatible with the XTR01Z router body.

What batteries work with the XTR01Z?

Any Makita 18V LXT slide-style battery with the Star symbol. For typical routing tasks, a BL1830B (3.0Ah) or BL1850B (5.0Ah) provides excellent runtime. The brushless motor is particularly efficient on larger-capacity packs.

Is the XTR01Z suitable for edge profiling and dadoes?

Yes. The 1-9/16 in. plunge capacity, constant speed control, and 10k–30k RPM range make it suitable for roundovers, chamfers, rabbets, and stopped dadoes in solid wood, plywood, and MDF. For deep mortises or large panel work, a full-size router is more appropriate.
