Makita 18V LXT Brushless Compact 1/2 in. Driver-Drill Kit (3.0Ah)

Model number
XFD061

The Makita XFD061 is an 18V LXT compact brushless 1/2 in. driver-drill kit pairing a BL brushless motor (530 in-lbs max torque) with a 3.0Ah battery and rapid charger. The 2-speed gearbox (0–400 / 0–1,550 RPM) and 17-position clutch deliver precise control for drilling and fastening in a lightweight 3.8 lb package. Extreme Protection Technology (XPT) and a 6-3/4 in. compact form factor make it practical for tight spaces and demanding job-site conditions.

§ FAQ

Is the XFD061 the same drill as the XFD12Z?

They are closely related. Both are compact 18V LXT brushless 1/2 in. driver-drills with 530 in-lbs of max torque and a 6-3/4 in. length. The XFD061 has a 17-position clutch and slightly lower top speed (0–1,550 RPM high) compared to the XFD12Z (21-position clutch, 0–2,000 RPM high). The XFD12 series superseded the XFD06 line with updated gear ratios and improved clutch resolution.

Is the XFD061 discontinued?

Yes. Makita has discontinued the XFD061. The current-production successor is the XFD12R (2x2.0Ah kit) or XFD12T (2x5.0Ah kit), both offering the same 530 in-lbs brushless platform with an improved 21-position clutch and higher top speed.

How does the XFD061 compare to brushed models like the XFD10Z?

The XFD061's brushless motor eliminates carbon brushes, delivering up to 50% longer run time per charge and a longer motor lifespan than the brushed XFD10Z. The XFD061 also produces 530 in-lbs versus 480 in-lbs for the XFD10Z. For users doing heavy daily use, the brushless advantage is meaningful over the life of the tool.

What charger is included with the XFD061?

The XFD061 includes Makita's DC18RC rapid optimum charger. It communicates with the BL1830B battery to control current, voltage, and temperature, refilling the 3.0Ah battery in approximately 30 minutes. The charger is compatible with all Makita 18V LXT batteries.

Can the XFD061 drill into concrete?

No. The XFD061 is a standard driver-drill without hammer action, so it is not designed for concrete or masonry. For hammer drilling, Makita's XPH series (e.g., XPH12Z) adds a percussion mechanism. For pure rotary drilling in wood and metal, the XFD061 handles up to 1.5 in. in wood and 0.5 in. in steel.
