Model number
XSS01Z

The Makita XSS01Z is the tool-only version of the 18V LXT 6-1/2 in. circular saw with a brushed high-torque motor producing 3,700 RPM. At 7.6 lbs. with battery, it features a precision-machined heavy-gauge base, built-in LED light, built-in dust blower, and electric brake, making it a solid entry-point 18V LXT circular saw for contractors already on the platform. § FAQ

How does the XSS01Z differ from the XSS02Z?

The XSS02Z is the updated successor. It is slightly lighter (7.3 lbs. vs. 7.6 lbs.), has a revised body design, and is the currently active model in Makita's lineup. Both use the same brushed 18V LXT motor at 3,700 RPM with identical cutting capacity and bevel range.

Is the XSS01Z still being sold?

The XSS01Z has been largely replaced by the XSS02Z in Makita's active lineup, but inventory remains available through many retailers. It is a solid saw, and its specs are identical to the XSS02Z for cutting performance.

What battery does the XSS01Z use?

Any 18V LXT battery with the Star symbol. The saw weighs 7.6 lbs. with a battery; a compact 2.0Ah battery keeps it lighter for overhead work, while a 5.0Ah provides longer run time for production cutting.

Can the XSS01Z cut 2×4 in a single pass?

Yes. The 2-1/4 in. cutting depth at 90° handles all standard 2× dimensional lumber in a single pass. At 45°, the 1-9/16 in. capacity handles most rafter and fascia cuts.

Why choose a brushed saw like the XSS01Z over a brushless?

Brushed saws have a lower upfront cost and are ideal for moderate-use applications where the longer run time and motor longevity of brushless technology are not the primary concern. For daily production cutting, the brushless XSH03Z or XSH04ZB are better investments.
