§ FAQ

What battery does the XSH03Z require?

Any 18V LXT battery with the Star symbol will work. For extended run time, a 4.0Ah or 5.0Ah battery is recommended. A 2.0Ah or 3.0Ah battery will work fine for light-to-medium tasks but will require more frequent recharges on production cutting.

Is the XSH03Z brushless?

Yes. The Makita BL brushless motor eliminates carbon brushes, reducing internal friction and heat. This translates to up to 50% longer run time per charge and a longer motor service life compared to brushed equivalents.

Can the XSH03Z rip a 2×10?

Yes. With a max cutting depth of 2-1/4 in. at 90°, the XSH03Z cuts through standard 2× dimensional lumber including 2×10 and 2×12 stock. At 45° the capacity is 1-5/8 in., which still handles common rafter and fascia cuts.

How does the XSH03Z compare to the XSH04ZB?

Both are 18V LXT brushless 6-1/2 in. saws at 5,000 RPM with identical cutting depths. The XSH04ZB is sub-compact — it is shorter and lighter (6.4 lbs. vs. 7.3 lbs.) and designed for tighter spaces and overhead work. The XSH03Z is the standard footprint, typically better balanced for straight, high-volume ripping.

Does this saw work with guide rails?

The XSH03Z base is not specifically designed for guide rail use. For guide-rail-compatible cuts on the 36V X2 platform, the XSH08Z features a dedicated guide-rail-compatible base.
