§ FAQ

What's the difference between the NCVT2P and NCVT3P?

Both are dual-range (12–1000V AC) with IP-rated bodies, but the NCVT3P adds an IP67 waterproof rating (vs. IP54 on the NCVT2P) and an integrated flashlight that works independently of the voltage detection function.

Can I use the flashlight without the voltage tester being in detection mode?

Yes — the flashlight operates independently. You can use it to illuminate a dark panel or junction box without activating voltage detection.

What does IP67 mean — can I use this in wet conditions?

IP67 means the tester is completely dustproof and can be submerged in up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes. It's the highest-rated NCVT in the family and suitable for outdoor and wet jobsite use.

Can this detect low-voltage systems like doorbells or thermostats?

Yes — the 12–1000V AC range covers doorbells (16–24V AC), thermostats (24V AC), irrigation controllers, and low-voltage lighting, in addition to standard 120V and 240V household circuits.

How does the NCVT3P compare to the NCVT1P for everyday home use?

The NCVT3P detects low-voltage circuits the NCVT1P misses (below 50V), is waterproof rather than just splash-resistant, and adds a flashlight — making it the better choice for working inside panels, crawl spaces, or anywhere lighting is limited.

How long do the batteries last?

125 hours — slightly less than the NCVT2P (142 hours) due to the flashlight, but still a very long service life on two AAA batteries.
