§ FAQ

Why buy two magnetic stud finders?

Two units let one stay permanently in a tool bag while the other goes to the job site. Two techs on the same crew can each carry one. Klein's compact N52 magnet unit is practical to multi-pack at its price point.

Is the MSF1002 identical to the MSF100?

Yes — each unit in the MSF1002 is identical to the standalone MSF100: same N52 magnet, same 1-inch scan depth, same 2.75-inch overall length. The MSF1002 provides two MSF100 units at a lower per-unit cost.

Should the MSF1002 be kept away from electronics or payment cards?

Yes — standard rare-earth magnet precautions apply. Keep the units away from credit card magnetic strips, mechanical hard drives, and pacemakers. The N52 magnet is strong enough to hold a wall fastener through drywall.

Is a magnetic stud finder appropriate for metal stud framing?

Partially — in metal-framed drywall, the drywall screws are driven at the stud flanges. The MSF100 can locate those screws, revealing stud positions. The metal stud member itself may also attract the magnet at flange locations. Electronic stud finders work differently and may be more reliable on metal framing.

What warranty covers the MSF1002?

1-year limited warranty from Klein Tools, covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal use — the same warranty as the individual MSF100.
