Klein Tools® ESF150LL Electronic Stud Finder with Cross-Line Lasers

Model number
ESF150LL

The Klein Tools ESF150LL is an electronic stud finder with integrated Class 3R cross-line lasers projecting red horizontal and vertical lines up to 15 feet in all directions. The unit detects wood and metal studs up to 1.5 inches deep, indicated by seven green LEDs and an audible alert. Features include hold mode, mute, felt pad backing, and a built-in bubble level alongside the laser leveling function. Operates on two AA batteries (included) with 6.6 ft drop protection. Suited for contractors and finish carpenters who need simultaneous stud detection and layout leveling. Covered by Klein Tools' 1-year limited warranty.

§ FAQ

What laser lines does the ESF150LL project?

Two Class 3R red laser lines — one horizontal and one vertical — projecting a cross pattern. The lasers operate independently of the stud-finding mode; you can project layout lines without actively scanning for studs.

Is the laser self-leveling?

No — the ESF150LL lasers are manually aligned using built-in bubble vials. The user levels the tool visually before activating the lasers. For self-leveling laser projection, a dedicated laser level (such as the Klein 93MCLS or 93LCLS) is required.

Does adding the laser increase weight significantly?

The ESF150LL weighs 16 oz vs. 10.4 oz for the ESF100 — a 5.6 oz increase. Both use the same 2 x AA batteries, so power requirements are unchanged.

Does the ESF150LL detect live electrical wiring?

No — like the ESF100, it uses the same electronic capacitance sensor and does not include AC wire detection. Stud detection depth is also the same at 1.5 inches.

When does the stud-finder-plus-laser combination make sense?

When hanging shelving, cabinets, or mounting rails where you need both stud locations and a horizontal or vertical guideline in the same workflow. The ESF150LL replaces the sequence of scanning for studs, marking them, then repositioning a separate laser level — all done with one tool.
