Klein Tools® ET190 Compact Combustible Gas Leak Detector

Model number
ET190

The Klein Tools ET190 Compact Combustible Gas Leak Detector is a slim, pocket-sized tool for detecting combustible gases with a wide range of 100 to 2,000 ppm. Dual sensitivity modes (High and Low) allow tailored detection accuracy. Multi-level LED and audible alerts intensify with rising gas concentration, and a 30-second auto-zeroing warm-up ensures reliable readings. A built-in worklight and pen clip add convenience for field use. Runs on 2 AAA batteries. Ideal for plumbers, HVAC technicians, and service professionals needing a portable gas leak detector. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty.

§ FAQ

How does the ET190 differ from the ET120?

The ET190 is pocket-sized (6.3 in, 1.8 oz, 2 x AAA) for everyday carry and quick checks. The ET120 has a 28.3-inch probe for reaching behind appliances, a higher concentration ceiling (10,000 ppm vs. ET190's 2,000 ppm), and a louder 85 dB alarm. Use the ET120 for thorough leak surveys; use the ET190 when portability is the priority.

What combustible gases can the ET190 detect?

Methane, propane, and other common combustible gases — the same gas family as the ET120. Detection range is 100–2,000 ppm.

What does the 100 ppm minimum accurate detection mean?

Below 100 ppm, the ET190 does not guarantee accurate response. At 100 ppm, combustible gas concentration is well below the lower explosive limit for methane (approximately 50,000 ppm), so the ET190 provides meaningful early leak detection. For calibrated LEL percentage measurement in industrial settings, a dedicated LEL gas meter is required.

What alarm types does the ET190 provide?

Audible and visual (LED) alarms that intensify with increasing gas concentration. The compact size limits speaker loudness compared to the ET120's 85 dB alarm — for noisy work environments, the ET120 is more reliably heard.

Can the ET190 detect refrigerants or CO?

No — it detects combustible gases only. For refrigerant leaks use the ET160; for carbon monoxide use the ET110.
