Model number
6200

The 3M™ Half Facepiece Reusable Respirator 6200 is a medium-sized, reusable half-face respirator constructed from lightweight thermoplastic elastomer (TPE). It is NIOSH-approved and connects to 3M 2000, 5000, 6000, and 7000 Series filters and cartridges via the bayonet-style mount. Suited for painting, sanding, chemical handling, welding, and construction, the 6200 helps reduce exposure to a broad range of gases, vapors, and particulates when used with approved cartridges. The swept-back cartridge design and four-point cradle head harness provide balance and a customized fit. Filters sold separately. Facepiece carries a lifetime warranty.

§ FAQ

What filters work with the 3M 6200 respirator?

The 6200 uses a bayonet connection and accepts all 3M 6000 Series gas/vapor cartridges as well as 3M 2000, 2200, 5000, and 7000 Series particulate filters. For painting and organic vapor protection, the 3M 60921 (OV/P100) cartridge is a popular pairing. For dust only, 3M 2091 P100 filters are common.

Does the 6200 work with beards or facial hair?

No. The 6200 requires a complete face seal, and any facial hair — including stubble — breaks that seal. OSHA requires a fit test before use in workplaces. If a tight seal is not achievable, 3M offers loose-fitting powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR) alternatives.

How do I know if medium is the right size?

The 6200 medium fits a broad range of adult faces and is the most commonly purchased size. If you experience pressure on the cheekbones, gaps near the nose, or chin clearance issues, try the 6100 small or 6300 large. A proper fit test — either a qualitative smell test or quantitative measurement — is the only way to confirm a seal.

Is the 6200 comfortable enough to wear for extended periods?

Customers consistently rate the 6200 as comfortable for extended use. The soft TPE facepiece and adjustable head harness reduce pressure points. Reviewers who weld and grind for hours report no significant discomfort. Adding the 3M 2091 P100 filter or a standard cartridge does not meaningfully change the ergonomics.

Can the 6200 be used for spray painting?

Yes, when paired with an appropriate cartridge. For latex paint, 3M 2091 P100 particulate filters may be sufficient. For oil-based paints, lacquers, and solvent-based products, you need an organic vapor cartridge such as the 3M 60921 (OV/P100) or 60923 (OV/AG/P100). Always check the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for the coating you're using.

Is the 6200 worth buying over a disposable N95?

For multi-day projects or work involving gases and vapors — where disposable N95s provide no protection — the 6200 is a better investment. The facepiece itself is inexpensive and lasts a lifetime. Recurring costs are cartridge or filter replacements. For pure dust work, a quality disposable N95 may be more convenient.
